8ball & Mjg new album
Inside MJG’s black Cadillac Escalade, the music from the Orange Mound duo is pulsing through the speakers as he sits in the parking lot of Naj Hammadi, a natural hair care salon in Whitehaven, waiting to get his dreadlocks done.
There are more than a dozen tracks from their yet-to-be-titled new album due in the spring on Bad Boy South label.
There are songs on the new album that pay homage to Memphis, and the duo—Marlon Jermaine Goodwin (MJG) and Premro Smith (8Ball), both in their early 30s—have worked with everyone you can think of on the local and national level, most recently the hardest-working man in hip-hop, Houston rapper Bun B.
“The new album sounds good,” MJG said. “We can’t wait until it’s out.”
